PASSIONATE ABOUT INTERCULTURAL CONTEXTS

“It´s a joy to speak a language” – Cristina Hevia, my mother.

Since I was little, I have always been seduced by the idea of traveling and learning about other ways of living: context, history, language, customs, religion, gastronomy, music, architecture, traditions… I find everything fascinating! And dreaming in front of a world map hanging in the hallway of my house, I promised myself, at a very young age, that I would speak 5 languages. Although I master 4, today I speak 6 and I am still learning.

CUTURAL MEDIATION EXPERT

“Translation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making a whole culture intelligible.” –Anthony Burgess

My dream of traveling the world and mastering languages has led me to live for almost 20 years of my life in multicultural contexts and deal with thousands of situations to adapt to. I have lived in countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Malaysia, Senegal, China… and I also had the pleasure of backpacking another 30.

My university thesis, based on the challenges generated by working in cultural diversity, involved good theoretical research; but nothing was better than putting it into practice working in different countries, languages and with colleagues of different nationalities. A true source of interculturality!

I consider myself a citizen of the world and I can say that I flow through cultural differences, knowing how to identify most contexts and respectfully handle possible misunderstandings that can so frequently lead to friction or even major head-on collisions if they are not well managed.

And that is MY DIFFERENCE as an interpreter, I do not stay in the theory or the purism of the language but also in the context, the needs of each situation and what is relevant so that your business objective is not affected or even enjoys more success.

WITH A BUSINESS FOCUS

“Words travel worlds. Translators do the driving.” –Anna Rusconi

Over the years I have developed extensive experience as an interpreter in:

  • Professional NEGOTIATIONS

  • Offline and online company MEETINGS

  • Business development TRIPS

  • Factory visits for INSPECTIONS or quality controls

  • Support at FAIRS

  • CONFERENCES

  • TRIALS

In the same way, I have taught LANGUAGE CLASSES applied to business for companies and individuals. In addition to giving TRAININGS and multilingual support as a consultant.

My experience in the CORPORATE WORLS in several countries and in different intercultural contexts means that I am very used to handling several languages at the same time.

CHINESE TRANSLATOR

学一门语言,就是多一个观察世界的窗户。

“To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world.” – Chinese Proverb

Of all the languages I speak, Chinese has undoubtedly been the most complex to learn. Not only because of its difficulty but because it intrinsically carries a complex cultural context that is very different from any other. It’s incredible that it is the most spoken by natives in the world!

I understood that, if I wanted to master the language, I would have to live for many years in the country, fully integrate myself working with national teams and, above all, not stop studying the language in parallel with my work.

It has been quite an adventure and thanks to it I have obtained the Advanced HSKK title awarded by the Hanban Confucious Institute in Beijing and I can bridge the gap between Western and Chinese language and culture.

ENGLISH TRANSLATOR

“A translator is a reader, an interpreter and a creator all in one.” – Bijay Kumar Das

English is my second language; I have used it since I was a child and it is without a doubt the one with the most international presence. English is recognized as an official language in a total of 67 different countries. It is the main language for business and is the official language of a large number of important international institutions.

In addition to having obtained an MBA in this language, it has always been the language in which I have worked either in bilingual or trilingual contexts.

FRENCH TRANSLATOR

“To have another language is to possess a second soul.” – Charlemagne.

For me, France is my second home. Having had the luck (and the will) to move to ancient Gaul to study my university degree has allowed me to be one of the others and master the language.

I have to admit that, despite being a neighboring country, I have encountered many more cultural differences than I could imagine. It is surprising how just by moving to the “next door” country there are already important differences to understand both on a personal and professional level.

Another relevant aspect of French, which is little taken into account, is that there are 29 countries that speak it in the world and it is estimated that the number of speakers is around 300 million people. It is a language much more used in professional contexts than we often believe.

SPANISH TRANSLATOR

“With languages, you are at home anywhere.” – Edmund De Waal

It has also been common for me to translate from other languages into Spanish and I have even taught Spanish to foreigners during some school years. This, requires handling Spanish with high clarity and rigor.
